Comet Sprint 50 / Daylight Sprint 22 Review

Winter Workcycle: Sprint 1, Jan. 28, 2026–Feb. 9, 2026

What was the goal of the Comet Sprint 50 / Daylight Sprint 22 (Winter 2026, Sprint 1) Review?
Advance discovery integration (so we deliver a connected system at the end of the workcycle) and unblock production data migrations.

Agile process notes

  • Shorter first sprint to make space for more in-depth workcycle planning
  • Careful attention to balancing development & code reviews, balancing work across the team

What is the milestone that this sprint is supporting?

  1. Discovery Integration
    1. publishing from Comet to ADRL Lite
    2. preparing for UCSD discovery development
  2. Discovery Development
    1. moving requirements forward to complex object, collections/sub-collections
    2. understanding API behavior
  3. Unblocking data migration
    1. Comet: finalizing decisions and features to validate metadata exports
    2. Shoreline: complete ingest and publish workflows (includes Comet)
  4. Finalizing Disaster Recovery
    1. Comet DB restores
    2. Sending metadata to EZID (requirements)

Accomplishments of Sprint Winter 2026, Sprint 1:

  • Discovery Integration (David & Margaret)
    • Initial ADRL Lite work to harvest records published from Comet
    • Initial Superskunk metadata implementation to support ADRL Lite
    • Overall architecture and strategy for parallel UCSB / UCSD / shared discovery development
  • Discovery Development
    • Exploration of API, focusing on collections and complex objects
    • Improving usability; Creating breadcrumb navigation for ADRLlite, and search flow updates. Allowing users to enter a user query or facet in either order.
  • Unblocking data migration
    • Added metadata support for additional visibility options (click-through, suppressed)
    • Finalized and implemented preferred file use behavior
    • Improved query performance
    • Fixed issues with pagination and workflow tasks
    • Fixed issue with publishing to Shoreline
  • Finalizing disaster recovery
    • Implemented database rollback and recovery features
    • Improved durability of data retention and storage

What’s next? [if applicable]

  • Finish peer review & QA on Sprint 1 work
  • Move forward on publishing from Comet to ADRL Lite
