Comet Sprint 49 / Daylight Sprint 21 Review (Oct. 29, 2025–Nov. 17, 2025)

Comet Sprint 49/Daylight Sprint 21 Review

Fall Workcycle: Sprint 2, Oct. 29 – Nov. 17, 2025

What were the goals of Comet Sprint 49 / Daylight Sprint 21?

Complete a connected discovery prototype (ADRL Lite)

  • APIs & infrastructure
    • Search API feature-complete
    • IIIF / thumbnail APIs feature complete
    • Component registry infrastructure finalized
  • UI
    • Web components use the API to display thumbnails and on the object page a Universal Viewer IIIF viewer has been added to allow for deeper interactions with thumbnail
    • Discussions held for complex objects requirements; starting to outline those requirements now

Environments / Application Reliability

  • Performance improvements to reduce ingest time; 50% reduction in ingest time is huge!
  • Improvements to overall application reliability

Comet MVP Features

  • Completed an initial pass at implementing an ordering column for batch ingest
  • Finalized requirements for what metadata should be sent to EZID when minting ARKs
  • Most goals for determining disaster recovery strategy are complete, based on actual recovery testing
  • Quite a few bug fixes that help unblock data migration and overall application stability, like the notifications bell

Reduce Tech Debt

  • Bitnami mostly addressed, Postgres in progress, Solr still outstanding
  • These are very large investments that we can’t defer and while we work on them, we aren't able to be working on other features/functionality

What’s next?

  • ADRL Lite:
    • Deploying ADRL Lite to QA and production
    • Downloads (requires more complex integration)
    • Publishing to ADRL Lite (requires more complex integration)
    • Finalize complex object discovery/display requirements
  • Comet:
    • For application performance, the next step is to take a step back and take a more targeted approach to where we should invest some time on the performance side
  • Lark:
    • See if current functionality is enough for Comet/ADRL Lite
  • Tech debt:
    • Moving off Bitnami Solr will be difficult and complex!
