Comet Sprint 55 / Daylight Sprint 27 Review (Jun. 10, 2026 – Jun. 30, 2026)

Comet Sprint 55 / Daylight Sprint 27 Review

What was the goal of the Comet Sprint 55 / Daylight Sprint 27?

Advance discovery integration so we deliver a connected system at the end of the workcycle) and unblock production data migrations.

What is the milestone that this sprint is supporting?

  1. Discovery Integration
    1. Implementing canonical (ARK-based) URLs
    2. Extending search API
  2. Discovery Development
    1. Continued production-readiness work
  3. Interim solution for controlled values
    1. Implementation into Comet and Goldengate
  4. Comet Ingest Improvements & Reliability
    1. Modeling production scale with large ingests and fixes required to support them

Accomplishments of Comet Sprint 55 / Daylight Sprint 27

  1. Discovery Integration
    1. Completed work on using ARKs as identifiers
    2. Started working on extending search API to support complex dates
    3. Fixed some issues around publishing updates
  2. Discovery Development
    1. Improved front-end visibility of downloads based on copyright status
    2. Completed support for ARK-based URLs
      1. Updated pages (e.g., results items, breadcrumbs) to use ARK-based URLs when possible
    3. Results List Improvements (Configurable metadata, Collection/Object labels, Custom default thumbnails, Fixed render stutter)
    4. [UCSD-GG] Updated Object page to have functional and distinct Object/Collection views
    5. [UCSD-GG] Added mobile views to Home page and Object page
    6. [UCSD-GG] Added functional breadcrumb navigation
    7. [UCSD-GG] Cleaned up design and presentation
  3. Interim solution for controlled values
    1. User interface for controlled values in Comet was completed
    2. Controlled values with TSV was turned on in UCSB Comet M3
    3. Controlled value labels from TSV are also working in UCSB Goldengate
    4. Existing labels are now consistently converted to controlled values
  4. Comet Ingest Improvements & Reliability
    1. Working to make it easier for users to tell when / whether imports have completed
    2. Using IIIF for thumbnails
    3. Turning off derivatives for everything except extracted text
    4. EZID metadata is now sent when creating arks for creator, title, publisher, date, type
    5. Added discovery links upon publish in Comet object pages, making it easy to find the published object for review.
    6. Bug fix: extracted text now contains the correct content. Additional edge case related to fileuse still pending (important when original file and service file should generate different extracted text, like in the case of redactions).

What’s next: Summer Workcycle Planning

  • Discovery integration
    • Further API improvements:
      • respect visibility flag
    • Further search improvements:
      • search/filter by date range
      • sorting support
  • Discovery development
    • Clarify/define expected behavior for component and complex objects re: publishing for discovery
    • Continue work on refining Complex Object display
    • Continue production-readiness refactors
  • Comet
    • Allow non-public IIIF images to be displayed
    • Improve search behaviors & reliability
    • Publishing behavior refinement (maintaining publishing status between Comet and Goldengate)
    • DOI support
