Data Model - Focus Group Update

We wanted to send out an update on the Project Surfliner data modeling focus group meeting we had on Monday, January 14th at UC Santa Barbara. The purpose of this meeting was to get Developers and Metadata folks on the same page about currently proposed metadata architecture (abstracting data model from code and the separate shared authority platform). The agenda and the notes from the meeting are included in the Project Surfliner team drive.

Highlights and an outline of our next steps:
We will begin development on a shared authority platform starting the first week of February. The name of the product is “Lark” and it has a timeline of 60 - 90 days. The product owner is Jessica Hilt (UCSD) and the Technical Lead is Tom Johnson (UCSB).

In parallel, we will continue development on the exhibits platform based on Spotlight starting the first week of February as well. The product is “Starlight” and it has a timeline of 60 - 90 days. The product owner is Chrissy Rissmeyer (UCSB) and the Technical Lead is Matt Critchlow (UCSD).

Work has begun on a Sprint Cadence document to help layout how sprints will be run and defining the stakeholders.

Lots of discussion around architecture and DevOps strategies, more on that in a blog post shortly.

Transparent communication was discussed in length, we will have a 15-minute scrum of scrums weekly Wednesdays 9:30 am - 9:45 am.

All are welcome to listen to the latest on Project Surfliner during the scrum of scrums. We are putting the finishing touches on a blog, which should be announced soon. Updates are going to the UC Tech Slack #surfliner channel as well. Let us know what questions you have!
