Comet Sprint 57 / Daylight Sprint 29 Review (Aug. 21, 2026 – Aug. 31, 2026)

Comet Sprint 57 / Daylight Sprint 29 Review

What was the goal of the Comet Sprint 57 / Daylight Sprint 29

Implement high-priority discovery features for UCSB (post launch!) and for UCSD; continue to support Comet production and UCSD data migration features.

What is the milestone that this sprint is supporting?

  1. Discovery Integration
  2. Discovery Development
  3. Comet Migration Readiness
  4. Infrastructure and Workflow Resilience

Accomplishments of Comet Sprint 57 / Daylight Sprint 29

  1. Discovery Integration
    1. Superskunk-related updates and planning
    2. EZID DOI requirements discussions
  2. Discovery Development
    1. Downloads for UCSD Discovery
    2. Facet label and values refinement
    3. Publishing behaviors discussion related to nested objects
    4. Discussions for representing complex objects with respect to search results
    5. Front-end testing spike with Playwright
  3. Comet Metadata and Display Consistency
    1. Extracted text implementation (important for full text search in discovery!)
    2. Exporter behavior discussion for technical metadata
    3. Bugs
      1. File manager fails to save order (symptom of a larger issue that is worth surfacing: controlled values)
      2. System ARKs are not returned in search results
      3. In progress: guardrails for not being able to publish an unapproved object.
      4. In progress: Comet visibility flags broken
  4. Assessing options for Solr 9 upgrades

What’s next?

  • Discovery integration
    • Continue work on authentication with Superskunk
    • Work on supporting Comet visibilities other than Public
  • Discovery development
    • Improved UX by adding facet specificity; when facet values belong to multiple facet labels, the applied parameters component displays the label and value to the user
    • Refining UCSD Downloads list to only display service files
    • Refining UCSD Complex Object view to be more consistent with DCDP design
    • Work on adding a Collection members filter to the Search API (The filter would pass a collection ID to the API, the API would respond with a results list of all the items in a collection)
    • Publishing for nested objects, adjacent discussion about search results
  • Comet Metadata and Display Consistency
    • DOI requirements and implementation issues
    • Exporter improvements for technical metadata
  • Solr 9 upgrades
  • Controlled values
    • Documenting workflow for updates
    • Work to resolve pain points where possible
  • Front-end discovery testing integration into CI/CD Pipeline
